About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Manchester United edged out Fulham in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, securing a 3-2 victory in the dying moments of the match. The result was largely expected given United's superior league position and form, but Fulham's spirited comeback nearly turned the tables. The match began with Manchester United taking control early on, as Casemiro opened the scoring in the 19th minute. His presence in the midfield was pivotal, dictating the tempo and providing a solid foundation for United's attacks. The home side doubled their lead in the 56th minute through Matheus Cunha, who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Fulham to put United in a commanding position. Fulham, however, refused to capitulate. Raúl Jiménez pulled one back in the 85th minute, setting up a tense finale. The drama peaked in the 90th minute when Kevin Santos Lopes de Macedo equalized for Fulham, seemingly snatching a point for the visitors. Yet, Manchester United's resilience shone through as Benjamin Šeško netted the winner in stoppage time, ensuring all three points stayed at Old Trafford. Tactically, Manchester United made no changes to their starting lineup from their previous match, despite several players being unavailable due to international duty and injuries. Fulham also fielded an unchanged starting eleven, with key players like Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze absent due to international commitments. The match highlighted Manchester United's depth and ability to grind out results even when not at their best. Fulham, on the other hand, will take heart from their late rally, demonstrating their potential to challenge higher-ranked teams. This victory consolidates Manchester United's position in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, while Fulham remains in the mid-table, looking to build on their performance in upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
